Piety Hill Musings

The ramblings of the Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church of Detroit. Piety Hill refers to the old name for our neighborhood. The neighborhood has changed a great deal in the over 160 years we have been on this corner (but not our traditional biblical theology) and it is now known for the neighboring theatres, the professional baseball and football stadiums and new hockey/basketball arena.

20 hours after the knoxville shooting...

It is interesting to watch how the coverage is playing out.

Knoxville paper and TV station continues to cover it with an insistance that no motive is known, and in covering the story ONE person said they heard him say 'hateful things', but others, including those who tackled him, said that he said nothing but was mumbling as they tackled him.

The Detroit Free Press and Detroit News, using AP sources, drops any mention of the play as Sunday service, (now noted as "Annie Jr."), and adding (as did Fox News last night), that the Unitarian Church
"promotes progressive social work, such as desegregation and fighting for the rights of women and gays. The Knoxville congregation has provided sanctuary for political refugees, fed the homeless and founded a chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, according to its Web site" .
Why are the media sources reporting that the shooting had anything to do with a gay rights agenda or any other agenda for that matter? Fox News even had on the by-line "shooting at gay-friendly church". Are the prepping us for something they know but hasn't been released to the public yet, or are they trying to skew coverage?

Interesting to watch how the story will continue to be reported.
